Oscar Isaac has revealed his contract with Marvel Studios doesn’t tie him to any MCU projects beyond the current series of Moon Knight.

In a recent interview with Variety, Oscar Isaac touched on his contractual commitments with Marvel, having just made his debut in the role of Moon Knight in the new Disney Plus series. The first episode of Moon Knight, which hit Disney Plus on Wednesday, has generally been well received by Marvel fans and many will be eager to see more of Isaac’s mysterious vigilante. However, if audiences were expecting Marvel to already have plans for Isaac to crossover into their big screen projects, they may be disappointed.

Discussing his entrance to the MCU, Oscar Isaac revealed he had some reservations over getting tied up in a long-term obligation. It’s an understandable concern, given that Marvel often ask their leading actors to sign up to huge multi-picture deals with the aim of growing their characters over multiple movies and crossover appearances, as seen in cases such as Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America. Isaac explained he wanted to be able to focus on telling the story of the current Moon Knight series and have the option to then consider his MCU future if that first season went well.

“I was in a position — because I wasn’t actively looking to get back into something this big — to say, ‘This is how I see it, and if you guys don’t see it that way, that’s totally okay, but then maybe it’s not the right fit,’” Isaac said of taking on his MCU role. “And so I wasn’t afraid that I was going to do the wrong thing.”

“I had heard of the golden handcuffs,” the actor added. “That was something that I was reticent about. And luckily, we all agreed that this [show] is what we’re going to focus on. This is the story. And if there’s any kind of future, I think it just depends on if people like it, if people want to see more, and if we find a story that’s worth telling.”

If audience reactions to the first episode of Moon Knight are any indication, Marvel could well be looking to renew Oscar Isaac’s contract soon. However, fans shouldn’t expect to see him cropping up in any other MCU projects in the near future.
