Patrick Stewart discussed how he was convinced Star Trek: Picard could work after working on James Mangold’s Logan.
25 years after Star Trek: The Next Generation concluded a seven-season run, Patrick Stewart will reprise his iconic role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard. However, Patrick Stewart had previously resisted the idea of revisiting Picard in a new Star Trek project.
During an interview with Variety, Patrick Stewart revealed that it was not until he worked on James Mangold’s Logan, which concluded the story of Wolverine and Professor X, that he considered reprising his role as Picard in a new Star Trek project to be a desirable prospect. As Patrick Stewart explained, Logan offered him the chance to finish the X-Men film series on a high note, which was not the case when he portrayed Picard in the feature film Star Trek: Nemesis:
“Hugh and I were so thrilled when the last thing we did for ‘X-Men’ was ‘Logan.’ It was the best ‘X-Men’ experience we both had, because we were the same characters but their world had been blown apart. Next Generation’ didn’t end like that. In fact, our last movie, ‘’Nemesis,’ was pretty weak.”
Star Trek: Picard stars Patrick Stewart, Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera, and Harry Treadaway. The new Star Trek series will be produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, James Duff, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth are on board as executive producers. Aaron Baiers (Secret Hideout) serves as a co-executive producer with Kirsten Beyer as a supervising producer.
Star Trek: Picard will premiere on CBS All Access on January 23, 2020.
