In a new clip shown during the “Avengers: Quantum Encounter” dining experience on the Disney Wish cruise ship, Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man finally acknowledged a popular fan theory regarding Thanos.
In the lead-up to Avengers: Endgame, which saw the Avengers’ final showdown with Josh Brolin’s Thanos, an array of colorful fan theories posited various ideas of how that battle might go down. One of the more bizarre and more popular theories was dubbed the “Thanus” theory and suggested Ant-Man could shrink down, then enter Thanos… from behind and re-expand, killing the Mad Titan in the process. Obviously, this was never going to make it into an MCU movie. However, Ant-Man himself has now (almost) addressed the theory.
Ant-Man Can’t Get Behind This Idea
A video shown as part of the “Avengers: Quantum Encounter” experience for passengers on the Disney Wish cruise ship featured an appearance from Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Hope van Dyne/the Wasp. In the video’s opening, Scott decides he’d better address “the elephant in the room.”
While Scott makes it clear he has no interest in getting up close and personal with Thanos like that – and, honestly, who can blame him? – he also reveals “it’s much more complicated than that.” Unfortunately, that’s as far as the explanation goes before Hope cuts him off, sparing the ears of Disney’s family diners. Check out the video below:
It’s unlikely Marvel will ever address the “Thanus” theory in full, but this Disney Wish video at least shows they are well aware of the ideas fans are generating. And, for any fans who really want to know why Ant-Man didn’t dispatch Thanos this way, at least Scott has now confirmed this plan might not work in practice – even if he didn’t get the chance to explain why.
