Epix has officially renewed the Batman prequel series centered on a young Alfred Pennyworth for a second season.

When Epix’s Pennyworth was first announced, many Batman fans didn’t seem to be interested in an Alfred origin story. However, Pennyworth has proven to be a successful show among critics, about Batman’s future butler. Now Epix has confirmed that Pennyworth will be seeing a second season.

Next year, Pennyworth will start production on season two at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, where The Batman will also be filming. Epix president Michael Wright said the following about Pennyworth‘s renewal:

“‘Pennyworth’ has been a big hit for us, embraced by critics and fans alike. It was the highest-performing original series ever to premiere on Epix, more than doubling the viewership of the shows that came before it. Bruno Heller, Danny Cannon and WBTV have delivered a brilliant, must watch series. We can’t wait to work with this phenomenal cast and creative team on another exciting season.”
