Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi and Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson are joining James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.
According to Deadline, Peter Capaldi has boarded the cast of The Suicide Squad in an undisclosed role while Pete Davidson is also expected to appear in the James Gunn-directed movie. The latter’s deal “is still coming together” due to his busy schedule with SNL.
Peter Capaldi and Pete Davidson are the latest actors to board the star-studded cast of The Suicide Squad. Production on the movie is expected to begin on September 23rd, with a table read taking place on September 11th.
Meanwhile, James Gunn is expected to deliver on the fresh take on the supervillain team in his Suicide Squad movie, with Idris Elba playing a new character, Jai Courtney reprising his role as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman playing Rick Flag again, David Dastmalchian starring as Polka-Dot Man and Viola Davis returning as Amanda Waller. John Cena, Nathan Fillion and Taika Waititi are also in talks for undisclosed roles, with Steve Agee voicing King Shark.
The first Suicide Squad followed a team of supervillains who were recruited by the government for a dangerous black ops mission in exchange for reduced sentences. The ensemble cast included Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and Jared Leto as The Joker. It earned mixed reviews at best, but became a massive hit for Warner Bros. with a worldwide gross of $746.8 million.
James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters on August 6, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news on Peter Capaldi, Pete Davidson and the future of the DC Extended Universe!
