Matt Reeves announced Peter Sarsgaard has joined the cast of Robert Pattinson’s The Batman.

Matt Reeves is set to deliver a new take on Batman for Warner Bros. with Robert Pattinson as the newest Caped Crusader. The cast of The Batman includes an ensemble of revered actors and now Matt Reeves has announced that Peter Sarsgaard is the latest performer to join the highly-anticipated Robert Pattinson film.

Matt Reeves announced Peter Sarsgaard’s casting on his official Twitter account with a post saying, “Oh… Hi, Peter…,” accompanied by a bat emoji and a GIF featuring the actor. While full details on role Peter Sarsgaard’s character will play in The Batman story are currently under lock and key, he will be playing a corrupt cop named Wasserman.

Full plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and features a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that includes Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler. The Matt Reeves film will follow Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as Batman.

Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, Jayme Lawson as Bella, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. Recently, Colin Farrell was reportedly in talks to play the Penguin.

The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
