Peter Sarsgaard teased new details about his role in Robert Pattinson’s The Batman.

Warner Bros. and DC’s The Batman will feature an ensemble cast that includes Peter Sarsgaard as a Gotham City district attourney named Gil Colson. Of course, some fans are suspecting that Peter Sarsgaard’s character may actually be Harvey Dent as opposed to an entirely new role created for the Robert Pattinson film.

However, Peter Sarsgaard reaffirmed that he is playing a new character created for The Batman during his recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Furthermore, Peter Sarsgaard shared new details on his character, describing Colson as a dishonest politician:

“I’m a district attourney and I’m basically… a politician that has trouble telling the truth.”

Peter Sarsgaard reiterated that his character will be an unsavory individual when asked who his children might prefer between Colson and the character his wife, Maggie Gyllenhaal, portrayed in The Dark Knight. “I’m a pretty distasteful person in it. […] The guy in this is not very nice,” Sarsgaard added.

Check out what Sarsgaard had to say about his role in Robert Pattinson’s The Batman in the video below.

Full plot details on The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and feature a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that includes Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler. The Matt Reeves film will follow Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as Batman.

Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
