Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller tease what will be the first proper Stan Lee cameo after his death.
The late and great Marvel legend most recently made a cameo appearance in Ralph Breaks the Internet and in the video game, Marvel’s Spider-Man. Lee is set to appear in a few more films following his death and the first proper one will be his cameo in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Miller teases Lee’s “important” cameo in the upcoming animated film in an interview with Fandango:
“I remember when we talked about it, we said, “You know, he’s so integral to the spirit of this movie that we don’t want to just give him a little passing cameo.” We wanted him to be more important and carry some emotional weight to the movie.”
Lord also commented on Lee’s important role in the film:
“Essentially we really thought since he was the guy who created the character with Steve Ditko that he should really give him something important like a talisman. So he gives him the spider suit, and says, “There’s no give backs.” And we thought that was really important.”
Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, & Rodney Rothman from a script written by Phil Lord, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse features the voice talents of Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Jake Johnson, Liev Schreiber, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, and Lily Tomlin.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative minds behind “The Lego Movie” and “21 Jump Street,” bring their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind. “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will be released in theaters on December 14, 2018.
