A new behind the scenes image of James Cameron’s upcoming film, Avatar 2 shows humans battling on Pandora.

It’s been a long road to get to the James Cameron sequel but we’re not quite their yet. The first film became the highest-grossing film in history, beating out James Cameron’s previous film, Titanic. The film grossed over $2.7B and was only just beaten out by Avengers: Endgame thanks to the film’s theatrical re-release. The film was originally set to be released next year but was pushed back to 2022 due to concerns over the coronavirus. However, the cast and crew of the film are still hard at work.

The first Avatar film ended with the humans being driven off Pandora. Some had theorized that the second film would revolve around the human forces retaliating against Jake Sully and the Na’vi. In the decade since the film was released, James Cameron himself has constantly reworked and rewritten just what shape and form these sequels will take. But, at the very least, this upcoming sequel will involve humans.

In a recent post, Jon Landau shared a behind the scenes image of human characters battling something offscreen in the film in what appears to be Pandora. You can see the full image below:

Here is the official synopsis for the first Avatar film:

AVATAR takes us to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on an epic adventure, ultimately fighting to save the alien world he has learned to call home. James Cameron, the Oscar-winning director of Titanic, first conceived the film 15 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not exist yet. Now, after four years of production, AVATAR, a live action film with a new generation of special effects, delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

Avatar 2 is currently set to be released on December 16th of 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on James Cameron’s upcoming film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
