James Bond Actors Pierce Brosnan & Daniel Craig Are All For A Female 007

James Bond actors Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan voiced their support for a woman playing 007 in the future.

Ever since James Bond debuted on the big screen in 1962’s Dr. No with Sean Connery in the role, 007 has been portrayed by a white man and some fans of the franchise are suggesting a woman or person of color lead the franchise in the future. Of course, this proposal has been met with resistance from some fans, but Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan (the two most-recent actors to portray James Bond) have recently expressed their support for a female 007.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Pierce Brosnan was asked about his thoughts on a woman portraying 007 and the former James Bond star expressed his support for the prospect. Pierce Brosnan noted that it would be exciting to see a woman play 007 after decades of watching men in the role:

“I think we’ve watched the guys do it for the last 40 years, get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there. I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting.”

However, Pierce Brosnan noted that he does not believe a woman will be cast as 007 while the Broccolis are running the James Bond franchise:

“I don’t think that’s going to happen with the Broccolis. I don’t think that is going to happen under their watch.”

Meanwhile, Daniel Craig was asked if he believed a woman could play 007 during an interview with Variety at the Toronto International Film Festival. “Of course, yeah,” Daniel Craig replied before endorsing Jamie Lee Curtis, who was by his side promoting Knives Out with the James Bond star, as a contender for the role of 007.

Of course, Pierce Brosnan made his first appearance as James Bond in 1995’s GoldenEye. After that, the role of 007 would be portrayed by Pierce Brosnan in Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, and Die Another Day.

Daniel Craig’s upcoming film No Time to Die is set to be his final outing as James Bond and recent reports suggest co-star Lashana Lynch would be introduced as his 007 successor. However, No Time to Die co-writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge played coy when asked about the veracity of those rumors surrounding Daniel Craig’s replacement.

Here is the official synopsis for Daniel Craig’s No Time to Die:

Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga from a script written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, No Time to Die stars Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear, Léa Seydoux, Rory Kinnear, Ben Whishaw, Jeffrey Wright, Ana de Armas, Dali Benssalah, David Dencik, Lashana Lynch, Billy Magnussen and Rami Malek.

No Time to Die is scheduled to be released in theaters on 8, April 2020. Stay tuned for the latest news on Daniel Craig, Pierce Brosnan and the future of the James Bond franchise!
