‘Power Rangers’ Reboot Writer Reveals Alternate Post-Credits Scene

Power Rangers Movie

The Power Rangers reboot offered fans a glimpse of the future in a post-credits sequence that teased the arrival of Tommy Oliver, a.k.a. the Green Ranger. While the character was not seen on screen, his name was called by a teacher taking down the names of the students in detention. However, writer John Gatkins and director Dean Israelite revealed that the tease for Tommy Oliver originally played out differently during the film’s audio commentary. Gatins explained the reference to Tommy Oliver originally involved a fight:

“Well we were going to have that there was a brawl in the lunch room. And a couple of our kids saying:

‘Man what happened?’
‘Dude there was this violent fight. There’s this one crazy kid, the new kid’.
“Which kid, Tommy Oliver?”

‘Yeah’.

So you would have felt like Tommy dropped into their world.”

While Tommy was still not going appear on screen, Israelite did explain why the sequence was changed:

“It didn’t work to be in this cafeteria where we had only spent one second [of the movie] in.”
