While the Power Rangers reboot may have had a disappointing performance at the box office, recent reports of high sales for action figures based on the superhero team offered fans a small glimmer of hope that a sequel could still be possible. While there has been no official word on a potential Power Rangers sequel, director Dean Israelite recently told Screen Rant that discussions on a second film are currently taking place.
Israelite expressed his hope that a sequel will move forward, but stated that the decision is not up to him:
“I hope so. It’s obviously not up to me, but I know the studio (Lionsgate) and Saban are talking in earnest about it, and are trying to push forward. They’re having a discussion.”
Personally, while the film was not without it’s glaring flaws, the cast and director created a group of compelling characters whom I would love to see return if the creative team behind the film can learn from the mistakes of the first.
