When Lionsgate announced that it was developing a live-action reboot of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers series, most fans assumed that the classic roles would be portrayed by a new group of young actors. However, many speculated on what role, if any, the original cast members might play in the upcoming reboot. Now, actor RJ Cyler, who will play the Blue Ranger, revealed through a series of story videos on the official Power Rangers movie Instragram account that he received some advice from the original rangers.
Cyler discussed the advice he received from two actors who portrayed members of the original Rangers team.
“Me and David [Yost] talk about, and he gives me advice and encouragement. And Jason David Frank is always [giving me] motivation.”
When asked which Ranger he would like to be if he had to choose a different colored suit, Cyler had a simple response.
“If I had to choose another Ranger, it would be the red one because red is my favorite color.”
However, Cyler reaffirmed that the Blue Ranger remains his favorite.
“My favorite Ranger as a kid was the blue one. I always used to dress up as the blue one on Halloween.”
Advice to the next generation of Rangers actors is not the only contribution Jason David Frank will make towards the film, as it has been confirmed that he will appear in the upcoming reboot.
