Barack Obama Lists ‘Watchmen’ As One Of His Favorite Shows Of 2019

Watchmen Barack Obama

Who watches the Watchmen? Barack Obama does, as he’s listed the 2019 show as one of his favorites of this year.

Former United States President offered a list of his favorite movies of the year, and among those, he also included three shows that were as effective as good movies. The shows were Fleabag, Unbelievable, and Watchmen, the last of which was the only superhero adaptation mentioned on Barack Obama’s list.

Barack Obama has made it no secret that he’s a geek (making his love for comic books known both before and after his election), and as such, his enjoyment of the new Watchmen show is not surprising. Putting it on a list of best movies and shows for the year is certainly high praise, and one that Damon Lindelof and HBO should be proud of. Watchmen has thus far only run for nine episodes, with no second season confirmed as of yet in spite of the series giving HBO some of its best ratings for a new series since Westworld and Big Little Lies. Perhaps Barack Obama’s endorsement of the show could help get the ball rolling on a follow-up.

Here is the official synopsis for HBO’s Watchmen:

Set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.

Watchmen stars Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, and James Wolk. The series is produced for HBO by White Rabbit in association with Warner Bros. Television, based on Alan Moore’s graphic novel co-created and illustrated by Dave Gibbons and published by DC.
