President Donald Trump held a screening of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker over the weekend at The White House.
Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker recently crossed the $1 billion mark which is quite the statement considering it’s the first R-rated film to hit that milestone. A dark and gritty telling of the Joker origin story, the Joaquin Phoenix film was doused in controversy even before it began rolling cameras. When Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker premiered at the Venice Film Festival, it was considered a critical darling among many. However, many believed that the film would prove to be toxic and incite forms of violence throughout America.
None of this happened of course, but the Joaquin Phoenix film was still maligned throughout its release. Beloved by both fans and critics, Joker seems to have a new fan in its camp: President Donald Trump. Donald Trump is a self-imposed film buff and frequently holds screenings at the White House. According to journalist Shimon Prokupecz, President Donald Trump had friends and family over to watch Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.
Yahoo! was able to confirm that President Donald Trump liked Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, though no other details regarding his enjoyment was given. Donald Trump actually has quite a bit of history with Batman-centric films. The Dark Knight Rises used Trump Tower back in 2012 for filming. President Donald Trump has also starred in a bevy of films as himself, with the most popular film being Home Alone 2: Lost In New York.
