During her recent interview with ExtraTV at the 2024 Golden Globes, Rachel Brosnahan finally opened up about her role as Lois Lane in the upcoming Superman: Legacy. Brosnahan delved into the preparation process, highlighting her collaborative efforts with co-star David Corenswet and writer-director James Gunn.
“We’ve been having a lot of great conversations, David [Corenswet] and I, with James Gunn the director and we’ve been talking a lot about where this project fits into the canon of the ‘Supermans’ that we know so hopefully this will be putting our own stamp on things.”
Brosnahan’s approach to Lois Lane is being carefully crafted ahead of Superman: Legacy. When asked about specific character traits, such as whether she’ll be wearing glasses, a common (at least on TV) but not definitive attribute of Lois Lane, Brosnahan expressed that such details were still in the works. Her response: “I don’t know actually. Maybe. We haven’t got that far in the fittings yet.”
Rachel Brosnahan emerged as the top choice for the role of Lois Lane last month. When the audition process began, Brosnahan faced fierce competition from Emma Mackey, known for her breakout role in Sex Education, and Phoebe Dynevor of Bridgerton fame. In the end, Brosnahan’s performance left an impression on James Gunn and Warner Bros. executives, helping her land the coveted role.
Superman: Legacy will not only focus on the central characters but also introduce new faces to James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe. According to reports, Legacy will feature numerous DC Comics heroes who are already established when Legacy begins.
Superman’s DC Universe Future
Set to begin production in March 2024, Superman: Legacy promises a fresh take on the iconic superhero saga, featuring David Corenswet stepping into the role of Superman, previously portrayed by Henry Cavill. Joining Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan in this new chapter of the Superman story is Nicholas Hoult, who is taking on the role of the villainous Lex Luthor.
Superman: Legacy is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark Kent and Superman while fighting off villains and saving the world.
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room and a unified storyline across film, television, animation and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
