Fans Crowdfund “Rehire James Gunn” Billboard Outside Disneyland

Disney James Gunn Guardians of the Galaxy

James Gunn fans have crowdfunded a billboard to show their support for the director who was fired by Disney off of Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy franchise this past summer.

Gunn fans launched a GoFundMe campaign and raised almost $5,000 for the billboard which reads: “Save the Galaxy: James Gunn for Vol. 3,” and points to RehireJamesGunn.com. The website provides links to both the billboards GoFundMe and the Change.Org petition fans have launched to have Gunn reinstated as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3. The billboard appeared on Monday in Garden Grove, California and is positioned nearly four miles from the Disneyland theme park in Anaheim.

Giuseppe Cincinnato, one of the fans behind the billboards launch, explained to The Hollywood Reporter that the purpose of the billboard is to show Disney the campaign to support Gunn is “not just all online outrage.”:

“We really love Gunn as both a creator and the man we’ve seen him mature into. Even if this wasn’t going to cause Disney to see their mistake, we could at least show James Gunn how much support he has in his corner of the galaxy.”

Gunn was pulled off of writing and directing Marvel’s third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise after a series controversial tweets that the director sent out as far back as 2009 surfaced in July. The director has since moved on from Marvel and is now developed the script for DC Films’ Suicide Squad sequel with an eye to direct over at Warner Bros. Pictures. As for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, the film was originally scheduled to begin production in early 2019 but has since been put on hold.
