Zombieland and Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick currently have a ton of momentum behind them after coming off the hugely successful X-Men spin-off. The writers are now attempting to put that momentum to good use with their next project, Zombieland 2, which as of today we know is currently being worked on.
Reese and Wernick confirmed to AMC’s Geeking Out (Kevin Smith & Greg Grunberg) that the sequel is currently in the works, and that they are meeting with Woody Harrelson tomorrow.
“That is breaking news that we’re on Zombieland 2 right now. We’re sitting with Woody [Harrelson] tomorrow and are going to sort of walk him through some of the stuff we want to do. All the cast is pretty excited.”
The writers also talked about Bill Murray’s cameo scenes in the first Zombieland, and how they went through a series of offering that part to twelve different actors until someone finally said yes. Some of the actors included Mark Hamill, Kevin Bacon, Sylvester Stallone, and Jean-Claude Van Damme. In the end, it was Harrelson that suggested either Dustin Hoffman or Bill Murray, and since Hoffman was busy at the time it ultimately went to Murray after some rewrites and an expanded role. Can you imagine any of those actors alongside Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson? Yeah, I can’t either.
