Rhys Ifans has all but confirmed his return as the Lizard for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
One of the biggest surprises from the second Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer was that the Lizard would be joining the likes of Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus. While early rumors tease that the villains from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy and Jamie Foxx’s Electro would return, not much information was given about The Amazing Spider-Man‘s Lizard. It wasn’t until the second trailer that the character was fully unveiled, leaving many confused if Rhys Ifans would return as the character.
Seeing as the villain is a product of motion capture and CGI and possesses a daunting, modified voice, it wouldn’t be surprising if Rhys Ifans didn’t return to the role. However, the British star pretty much confirmed his return as the big bad in a chat with Murphy’s Multiverse.
“Well, you know, like most Christmas presents, the good thing is not knowing what’s in them until it’s time to open them.”
As coy as that response is, it’s pretty much a yes. The wait to see Rhys Ifans fully announced as the Lizard grows shorter by the day as Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to hit cinemas this week.
Here is the synopsis for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home:
“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.”
Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, and Jamie Foxx, with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield heavily rumored to appear.
