TheWrap reports Game of Thrones alum Richard Madden is in talks to join Angelina Jolie in Marvel Studios’ The Eternals.

According to Variety, Richard Madden is in negotiations for the role of Ikaris and will join Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, and Ma Dong-Seok in the film.

Plot details for the film remain under wraps, however, the story reportedly features a love story between Ikaris and Sersi. Created by Jack Kirby in 1976, the Eternals are a fictional evolutionary offshoot of humanity created by the Celestials over a million years ago. The beings who possess superpowers and longer lifespans were the result of genetic experiments that led to the creation of two divergent races: The Eternals and The Deviants.

Marvel Studios has tapped Chloe Zhao is to direct the project from a script written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. The duo is best known for their spec script Ruin which managed to reach the top of the 2017 Black List. Principal photography on the project is rumored to begin in September of 2019.

Other known future projects from Marvel Studios includes the Black Widow standalone film starring Scarlet Johannson, which has been written by Jac Schaeffer and is set to begin filming next month, as well as the Black Panther sequel that Ryan Coogler is returning to write and direct. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was originally set to begin production in early 2019 but was put on hold after James Gunn was removed from the franchise. Now that the director has been brought back, production is expected after Gunn completes work on The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. and DC Films.

Richard Madden can currently be seen starring in season one of Netflix’s Bodyguard.
