A new bit of evidence suggests that Richard Madden is already set to return as his Eternals character Ikaris.
Spoilers ahead for Eternals.
Marvel Studios and Chloe Zhao’s sci-fi epic Eternals finally hit Disney Plus yesterday. With more eyeballs than ever glued to the film, a recent bit of evidence suggests that Ikaris will be returning quite soon. In case you missed it, Richard Madden’s superpowered hero-turned-villain lived up to his namesake by flying too close to the sun. After all, Ikaris murdered Ajak and went against the Eternals’ wishes, so it seemed to be a fitting end for the tragic character.
But this is Marvel, which means no one’s really gone. Especially Ikaris, who we know has been on Earth for the last 7,000 years alongside the Eternals. New evidence suggests that Richard Madden is returning in a future Marvel project, which could be airing soon.
Emmy Kennard recently took to TikTok to share that her brother, stuntman Joe Kennard, is on track to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe very soon. Kennard was, of course, Richard Madden’s stunt double for Eternals. Poring through Kennard’s resume, it’s clear that Ikaris is the only Marvel role he’s doubled for. In fact, the stuntman previously doubled for Madden on Citadel, so it’s likely that Kennard is stepping into the role of Ikaris once again.
So just how soon will Richard Madden return as Ikaris? The theory going around right now is that the star will reprise his role in Disney Plus’ Moon Knight, which is currently going through reshoots and is eyeing a late 2022 release. Seeing as Ikaris is inherently a historical character, it wouldn’t be out of the question to see him sharing the screen with Kohnshu, the Egyptian God of the Moon. Of course, these are just theories and nothing has been confirmed, but it is interesting that all evidence is pointing to Ikaris’ return.
Here is the synopsis for Richard Madden’s Eternals:
The story takes place across two time periods. One storyline is set in the past when they operated as a formidable team and a close family unit. The second storyline is in the present, when the group has fractured and split apart, content to live among humans, hiding in plain sight. The prevailing threat of the Deviants, which once again threatens the existence of mankind, means the Eternals need to put their differences aside and regroup.
Chloe Zhao directed Eternals from a script she co-wrote with Patrick Burleigh, Kaz Firpo, and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as Ajak, and Angelina Jolie as Thena.
Eternals is available to stream on Disney Plus will be available on home media formats on February 15. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of the film’s characters, including Ikaris, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content!
