Rick Cosnett Originally Joined ‘The Flash’ Show As Jay Garrick

It was revealed today that Rick Cosnett, the actor who portrays Eddie Thawne on The Flash, was originally contracted to play a young Jay Garrick until the writers changed their minds. This information was revealed during a Q&A at Heroes and Villains Fest, along with various other details about the first draft of the show’s pilot.

We know The Flash’s pilot was originally supposed to be a backdoor pilot serving as episode 20 of Arrow’s season 2, but not much else was known about the original plans until now. Today we learned Harley Rathaway (aka Pied Piper) was originally meant to be a part of Team Flash, which he became a part of after Flash’s time travel this past season. Caitlin’s dead fiance was also originally going to be Kyle Nimbus (the villain The Mist) instead of Ronnie Raymond. Nimbus would have been the villain of the pilot, and Caitlin would have been a much older actress. Rick Cosnett would also have appeared as Jay Garrick in this pilot episode.

Sounds like a lot to digest, but overall I like the direction the show ended up going in. That pilot would likely have been a bit overstuffed, and season one of The Flash was really good so any changes may have sacrificed that.
