Ahead of the home release for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Riz Ahmed who plays the ex-Imperial cargo pilot Bodhi Rook in the film shared that he and the rest of the cast were completely surprised by Darth Vader’s final scene in the film.
In the interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ahmed recounted the incredible experience of watching the Star Wars spin-off for the very first time when he shared that he and the rest of his castmates had no idea bout the Sith Lord’s final scene in which he slaughtered a group of Rebel soldiers:
“They kept that from us! That was never in the script. We didn’t know about it! It was the first time we saw it, so it was like, ‘Oh okay, the film’s finished… Darth Vader? Epilogue? Uh… What is going on here?’ and we just all started shouting, and cheering and clapping in a screening room — Yeah, that was a sneaky one, that was sneaky.”
The film’s director Gareth Edwards recently revealed the scene itself was a last minute addition as it was conceived and pitched to Kathleen Kennedy by editor Jabez Olssen only months before the film hit theaters.
You can watch the full interview with ET in which Ahmed also dishes on the changes his character underwent from the initial script to the final cut of the film below.
The film stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Mads Mikkelson, Donnie Yen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker. Here’s the official synopsis:
