The Future Of The Avengers Is ‘Very Uncertain’ According To Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr Avengers Tony Stark Iron Man

For years, Robert Downey Jr. has made us both laugh and cry in his role as Tony Stark in the Iron Man series as well as the Avengers. Now, however, with Avengers: Endgame right around the corner, the actor says that the future of the Avengers is “very uncertain” to say the least.

No one would deny that Endgame is sure to have both its fair share of action and humor as well as drama and loss. So far, the series has lost nearly half of its main characters at the hands of Thanos and the last we’ve seen of Tony Stark leaves him stranded in space with a dwindling oxygen supply.

However, with the uncertainty of new characters, the future of the Avengers as we know it, and whether or not the characters we’ve lost will ever return to the silver screen, the main cast has made it clear on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that they aren’t sure if they will ever return as the full team on another show or film for that matter.

When the cast of Endgame was asked directly on Jimmy Kimmel Live! about the future of the Avengers, all that Robert Downey Jr. chose to disclose was this:

“The future’s very uncertain.”

Still, for fans, this alone is a highly unsettling premonition as the series’ end could very easily be yet another thing to disintegrate as the battle continues for the Infinity Stones and Earth as we know it. Although it has not been verified yet, some fans believe that the leads of the films will be stepping down in order to make way for new younger heroes.

For now, all we can do is wait for Endgame to give us the answers we all want to know and hope that these beloved characters won’t face their demise as well in the process. Here’s the synopsis for Avengers: Endgame.

After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War (2018), the universe is in ruins due to the efforts of the Mad Titan, Thanos. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers must assemble once more in order to undo Thanos’ actions and restore order to the universe once and for all, no matter what consequences may be in store.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.

Avengers: Endgame will open in theaters April 26th, 2019.
