Robert Downey Jr. weighed in on the possibility of reprising his role as Iron Man down the line.
Ten years after launching the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the story of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man concluded with the once selfish hero sacrificing his life to defeat Thanos and save humanity during the final battle of Avengers: Endgame. While many considered the sacrifice to be a fitting end to the decade-plus arc of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, some are still holding out hope that the beloved hero can somehow return in a future Marvel project.
During an interview with Extra, Robert Downey Jr. stated that “anything could happen” when asked if he was truly finished playing Iron Man. However, Robert Downey Jr. added that he considers himself to be done with the Iron Man role and that he’s looking forward to seeing the new projects from Marvel:
“As far as I’m concerned, I hung up my guns and I’m good to let it go. I also think Marvel is on this journey now and they’re trying a bunch of other stuff, and I’m excited for them to see how all that goes. It’s hard to project.”
