Matt Reeves’ The Batman will follow Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne during his formative years as Gotham’s Dark Knight.
Robert Pattinson’s casting as Batman was only just confirmed but details about his take on the iconic DC Comics character have already begun to emerge. According to Deadline, Robert Pattinson will portray Batman in his “formative years.”
“Reeves’ film tracks Bruce Wayne in the formative stages of Batman, which is why they needed an actor in his early 30s.”
Pattinson is 33-years-old while Ben Affleck was 41 when his casting in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was announced. He’s the second-youngest actor to ever play Batman on the big screen after Christian Bale, who was only 31 when the first installment of the Dark Knight trilogy hit theaters.
Former Bruce Wayne Ben Affleck was originally set to write and direct The Batman. He eventually stepped down and handed the duties to Matt Reeves, who’s been attached to the movie since February 2017. Nearly a year later, Ben Affleck revealed that he had decided to hang up the cape and cowl, allowing Reeves to look for a younger Batman.
Plot details for The Batman project are currently under wraps. It’s said to revolve around a young Bruce Wayne and Matt Reeves has previously confirmed that it will not be directly based on Frank Miller’s Year One comic.
Matt Reeves’ The Batman is one of many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. The list also includes a Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, The Suicide Squad, Nightwing, Supergirl, Plastic Man and New Gods.
The Batman is set to open in theaters on June 25, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news on the project.
