Robert Pattinson wants to do crazy things with upcoming Matt Reeves film The Batman and has discussed what might get in the way of it.

Last year fans were rather surprised to learn that Robert Pattinson of Twilight fame was in the running to play the role of Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves’s upcoming film, The Batman before being confirmed for the role. Since the final film in the Twilight Saga debuted, Robert Pattinson made a name for himself in lower budgeted independent films playing more complex and challenging characters than anyone expected at the time. Now Robert Pattinson wants to take that experience and bring it to The Batman.

While speaking to Empire Magazine, Robert Pattinson talked about the rating system and how R-rated films allow you to do a lot more. Regarding The Batman, he wants to push it as far as it can go, do crazy things with the part and thinks that director Matt Reeves is on board to do this as well:

“The only thing that’s more complicated is the rating. As soon as you make something an R-rated movie, you’re freed up to do so much stuff. In terms of the character itself, I want to push it as far as it possibly can go. And I think Matt Reeves does as well. You can do crazy stuff with that part.”

What do you think Robert Pattinson means by all of this? How far can they push The Batman and still maintain a PG-13 rating? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Full plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and features a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that includes Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler. The Matt Reeves film will follow Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as Batman.

Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, Jayme Lawson as Bella, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Peter Sarsgaard. Recently, Colin Farrell was reportedly in talks to play the Penguin.

The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
