Robert Pattinson’s The Batman has offically crossed the half-billion-dollar mark at the global box office.

The Batman opened to critical acclaim earlier this month, winning the heart of DC Comics purists and casual audiences alike. Fans have taken to social media with fervor to share their favorite moments from the brooding epic, as well as a flurry of memes that playfully tease (or celebrate, depending on how you look at it) the film’s brooding nature and use of Nirvana’s “Something In the Way.” And it looks like the love on social media and group chats all over the world is translating to real-life results.

Bruce Wayne is getting even richer! Warner Bros. and DC have announced that their new take on the Dark Knight has officially made over a billion dollars, having earned $505.8 million worldwide at the time of this writing. The Batman is only in its second week of release. It will open in China on March 18, where it is expected to make a considerable splash, as audiences from the Middle Kingdom have been waiting with bated breath for a new superhero film.

While The Batman is breaking pandemic-era records, a sequel hasn’t been officially announced. Despite that, director Matt Reeves is eager to let fans know that the current film dominating theatres is merely chapter one in a larger franchise starring Robert Pattinson. “What I wanted to do was to make this movie a satisfying experience so that people could experience a new fresh version of a character that the world has loved for over 80 years,” the director told Los Angeles Times En Español. “I think that if we succeed on that front, I know that I have a lot of stories I want to tell and then we’ll do chapter 2, but not because we didn’t make this one a complete experience.”

Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, and Barry Keoghan as The Joker.
