A new photo from the set of The Batman offers fans a first look at a cathedral set from the Robert Pattinson movie.
Earlier this month, it was reported that multiple sets for Robert Pattinson’s The Batman were being constructed at Cardington Sheds in the United Kingdom. One of the sets being built for The Batman is a cathedral, where a funeral scene with 500 extras is going to be filmed. Now, it appears that the cathedral set for Robert Pattinson’s first outing as the Caped Crusader is nearing completion.
A brand new photo of the cathedral set for The Batman has surfaced online and it gives us a hint at the vibe the Robert Pattinson movie is going for. In the image, there are a three airships above and near the set where the cathedral is being built. Airships were prominently featured in Batman: The Animated Series, which has left fans speculating that the Robert Pattinson movie will be taking inspiration from the iconic television show. You can check out the cathedral set featuring from The Batman set below.
Right off the bat, we know that a funeral scene will be taking place in The Batman, which leads to heavily speculation as to who has died. The most obvious answer would be witnessing Thomas and Martha Wayne’s funeral again, but that plot point has become a recurring joke for fans of the Batman franchise. We’ve seen the iconic couple die on screen multiple times, with their funeral becoming a near constant as well. Only time will tell whose funeral it is, but it sure is expected to be a grand one considering 500 individuals are expected to populate the make-shift cathedral.
Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman is expected to be a dark, neo-noir take on Batman, something that we haven’t seen on the big screen as of yet. Robert Pattinson has become well known in his post-Twilight days for being an actor who can exude grit and a brooding nature, so he appears to be a perfect fit for the Matt Reeves’ vision for Batman.

Full plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and features a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that includes Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler. The Matt Reeves film will follow Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as Batman.
Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, Jayme Lawson as Bella, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Peter Sarsgaard. Recently, Colin Farrell was reportedly in talks to play the Penguin.
The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
