Roberto Orci Developing Untitled ‘Spider-Man’ Spinoff Film

The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s Roberto Orci has been tapped to write an upcoming Spider-Man spinoff film.

Sony has been slowly building their own Spider-Man Cinematic Universe with the likes of Venom and Morbius. Other projects that are currently in the works are Madame Web, Silver Sable, Black Cat and even Kraven The Hunter is rumored to get his own film. Now, TheWrap is reporting that Roberto Orci has been tapped to write an upcoming Spider-Man spinoff.

Orci is no stranger to the world of Spider-Man as he previously wrote the screenplay for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He’s also credited for J. J. Abrams’ Star Trek and Star Trek Into The Darkness, so Orci might feel right at home with a movie of this stature.

Morbius is the next film to be released from the Spider-Man Cinematic Universe with Jared Leto in the titular role. Morbius is set to be the first of these film’s to connect with the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the reveal of Michael Keaton’s Vulture in the first teaser trailer. A sequel to Venom is currently shooting with Andy Serkis in the director’s chair, Tom Hardy returning and Woody Harrelson playing the murderous Carnage.

Here is the official synopsis for Jared Leto’s Morbius:

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.

Directed Daniel Espinosa from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, Morbius stars Jared Leto as the lead anti-hero, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and Tyrese Gibson. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the project with Lucas Foster while Palak Patel will oversee for Sony.
