One of the bigger pieces of news from this year’s Star Wars Celebration in London was that Alden Ehrenreich had officially been cast as a younger Han Solo for a new movie set for release in 2018. It had been rumoured and even reported that Han Solo may show up in this year’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. However, while speaking to Extra, Rogue One director, Gareth Edwards officially addressed these rumours surrounding a Han Solo appearance.
“I’m not sure I’m allowed to do this but I think I should. I can put to bed, Han Solo is not in the movie.”
Some fans may be disappointed to hear this, but most can agree in a Star Wars movie about new characters it could feel quite jarring for one of the most beloved original trilogy characters to show up, albeit with a new actor in the role.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story follows a group of Rebel fighters who come together in order to steal the plans for the Death Star. Rogue One stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, and Jonathan Aris.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on December 16th
