‘Rogue One’ International Trailer Provides New Info

Rogue One

The brand-new trailer for ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ lit up the internet last week. More action, more character, great imagery, some humor, VADER – there was a lot to get excited about. One of the interesting things about that trailer was, while it showed off more of the gritty war tone and the ensemble cast, there was little in the way of new plot details. If you’re hungry for those plot details, then take a look at this recently released International trailer for the film.

*Mild ‘Rogue One’ spoilers follow, but if you’ve been extensively following the film, the info revealed shouldn’t be a major surprise. Still, you’ve been warned.*

For the most part, there’s not much new in this trailer. There’s a few different shots, but it’s mainly action beats, imagery, and dialogue taken from both previous trailers. That is, except, for the tidbit at 0:15. Mon Mothma and Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) tell Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) the Rebellion received an Imperial message regarding the weapons test of the Death Star, and they received it from none other than Jyn Erso’s father.

If you’ve been following the news output of ‘Rogue One‘ (as well as Mads Mikkelsen’s love of chatter), you’ll know that Mads Mikkelsen is playing Galen Erso, the father of protagonist Jyn Erso. Though his exact role in the film is unknown, he has been described as “a scientist whose knowledge is sought by both sides”. If the rumors are true, he could have played an integral role in the creation of the Death Star in the first place. It would seem he feels remorseful after giving the Empire a gigantic, planet-killing weapon and wishes to help the Rebellion take it down. We’ll have to wait until the film’s release to see how this all plays out, but with Mads Mikkelsen playing him, I’m sure Galen Erso will be a fascinating new addition to the Star Wars universe.

‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ is directed by Gareth Edwards and will be in theaters December 16, 2016.

The music in this trailer seems more hopeful. I wonder if that is intentional?
