Solo: A Star War Story will chronicle one of the early adventures of Han and Chewbacca, though actor Alden Ehrenreichโs recent confirmation that he has signed a contractย giving him the option to appear in more Star Wars films has fans wondering if the titular smuggler might return for more missions. In an interview with Fandango, director Ron Howard commented on the possibilityย of seeingย more adventures with young Han Solo.
While Howard confirmed that there are no long-term plans for more Solo films, he did suggest that the fans will determine whether or not the rogue smuggler returnsย for another outing:
โI think the fans are going to define all of that. I mean I think that Lucasfilm and Disney in casting actors, and particularly younger actors, want to see what happens and build upon that. Certainly, they want the commitment from the young actors, but there are no concrete plans. I think thereโs been a lot of creative energy and now marketing energy going behind this movie.โ
Howard added that while the standalone Star Wars filmsย are designed to be single films, it appears Lucasfilm may be open to bringing back certain characters in future projects:
โI think these are exactly what theyโre meant to be, or what theyโre designed to be. Theyโre single movies exploring the galaxy; but of course, as a company, I think theyโre going to be very interested to see how people respond to it and take it from there. This whole thing is kind of a cool, ambitious exploration of what the galaxy and the Star Wars sensibility can continue to mean to fans.โ
