New Rumor Suggests ‘Captain Marvel 2’ Will Set Up Next ‘Avengers’ Movie

A brand new rumor suggests that Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel 2 will plant the seeds for the next Avengers movie.

Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ended with a bang thanks to Avengers: Endgame, which closed off a decade’s worth of storytelling. With much of the original Avengers team phased out, we now look towards the future of the iconic team and what their adventures will entail. While there aren’t any conclusive details, a brand new rumor suggests that Brie Larson’s second outing as Captain Marvel will set up the next Avengers movie.

According to MCU Cosmic, Captain Marvel 2′s plot will set into motion the narrative for the new Avengers movie, which will consist of brand new characters led by Captain Marvel. The site mentions that the Captain Marvel sequel’s plot will set up the next Avengers movie to similarly how Captain America: Civil War set the stage for Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. The source also mentions that whoever helms the Brie Larson film could also get a shot to helm the next Avengers movie, mirroring the trajectory of the Russo Brothers who went on to direct Infinity War and Endgame after Civil War.

At the moment, this is merely a rumor and its connotations are huge as it implies that the next Avengers film will come out after the Captain Marvel sequel, which is currently set to hit cinemas in 2022. That being said, the rumor isn’t entirely wrong in suggesting that the next Avengers film is a few ways out. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s entire slate was recently reshuffled due to the coronavirus, which has caused numerous films to be pushed back.
