Avengers directors Joe and Anthony Russo are a big part of the franchise’s tight-lipped nature so any comments they make regarding the films are listened to closely.
In a recent interview on AOL’s BUILD Series, the directors and Winter Soldier actor, Sebastian Stan, were asked directly about which of the myriad of characters who had died in Avengers: Infinity War would be returning. The question was asked in such a way to avoid direct spoilers for the Marvel film, while at the same time attacking one of the biggest questions fans were left with after watching the blockbuster:
“Those stakes are what help us have an emotionally cathartic experience with the cinema. What we can say is this: we have a very real commitment to there being actual stakes in these movies and that characters can pay the ultimate price for their actions. We can say that. That is real and that is a part of what these films are.”
The host next tried to prod Joe for anything further, though he refused to add anything, Sebastian Stan quipped, “I don’t know anything!”
Avengers: Infinity War is now playing in theaters. The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautisa, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman, Benedict Wong, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Benicio Del Toro, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Terry Notary, Carrie Coon, and Josh Brolin. Here’s the official synopsis:
As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.
The currently-untitled Avengers 4 features a cast made up of many of the key players in Infinity War — alongside Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, and newcomers such as Brie Larson, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Emma Fuhrmann. The film hits theaters on May 3, 2019.
