After they conclude their work on the two most ambitious (and expensive) superhero movies to date – Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and the currently-untitled Avengers 4 – Joe and Anthony Russo are looking to scale back in a big way by producing a television series based on the Quantum and Woody property from Valiant Comics.
TheWrap is reporting that a series based on the cult classic comic series Quantum and Woody is in early development, joining a slate of Valiant Comics adaptations such as Sony’s planned Bloodshot and Harbinger films. The writing team of Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari – who previously collaborated on Ant-Man and its forthcoming sequel, Ant-Man and The Wasp – will handle the script for the pilot and will executive produce the series. While the Russo Brothers are already well-known for their work on Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, the two got their start by working on television comedies like Arrested Development and Community – both of which garnered substantial fanbases. Interestingly, the series should take more after those two shows than the two Captain America films, as – in spite of the story being deep-seated in superhero mythology – Quantum and Woody is very much a comedic series.
The comics revolved around two adopted brothers who gain energy-related superpowers after investigating the mysterious circumstances around the deaths of one of their foster parents. The brother decide that, having survived an origin story, they’re obligated to become superheroes – although the two prove to be a pretty terrible superhero team due to the emotional baggage that followed a serious falling-out between them years ago. The two heroes now have to juggle solving the mystery of their father’s death, putting a stop to crime, protecting the innocent, working to heal the divide that broke their family, and figuring out how to get through every day without strangling each other. You know, the usual sort of superhero fare… But with a pet goat thrown in for good measure.
Quantum and Woody does not have a set release date, but will most likely arrive after work on Avengers 4 is finished.
