Avengers: Infinity directing duo the Russo brothers are reteaming with Spider-Man star Tom Holland for the upcoming film Cherry.
Joe and Anthony Russo, more commonly referred to as the Russo brothers, have been slaving away on four consecutive films for Marvel Studios since Captain America: The Winter Soldier back in 2014. Next month’s Avengers: Endgame concludes the duo’s extensive collaborating with Marvel and the Mouse House, so it was only a matter of time until the Russo brothers started looking at the path which lay before them.
According to Variety, that is exactly what the Russo brothers have started doing. Not only that, but it appears they have tapped Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War star Tom Holland for their first post-Marvel gig, a film called Cherry. The Russo brothers are expected to direct from a screenplay written by Jessica Goldberg, who adapted the book Exit West for the Russo’s ABGO production company.
Cherry is based on the book of the same name by author Nico Walker. Variety describes the film:
“Cherry” parallels the true life story of the author, a former Army medic who returned from Iraq with extreme undiagnosed PTSD, fell into opioid addiction and began robbing banks. Walker was caught and convicted in 2011 and is scheduled to be released in 2020.”
According to the article, Cherry has been atop the brothers’ priority list since winning the production rights in a highly-competitive bidding war last summer. Tom Holland was an easy pick for the Russo’s, having worked with the young actor in Avengers: Infinity War as well as the upcoming Avengers: Endgame.
Tom Holland is set to reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Avengers: Endgame next month.

After the mid-credits scene for Ant-Man and the Wasp, many were theorizing that the Avengers would have to rescue Scott Lang from the Quantum Realm and subsequently use the alternate dimension to travel back in time to defeat Thanos. While it appears Scott Lang managed to escape on his own, he may have brought the van containing the way to the Quantum Realm to the Avengers’ front door.

While the Hulk was absent from the first Avengers: Endgame trailer, Bruce Banner managed to make a brief appearance. The brilliant scientist could be seen assessing the list of casualties of Thanos’ decimation and it has clearly taken an emotional toll.
