While visiting China to promote Deadpool 2, Ryan Reynolds confirmed that Deadpool 3 is in development by his team.
Actor Ryan Reynolds who, nowadays, is mostly known for interpreting Wade Wilson/Deadpool for FOX and Marvel is in China to promote Deadpool 2. According to Variety, during a presser in Beijing Ryan Reynolds talked about the third installment of the Merc With A Mouth and that it’s already in development by his team. He also said that they were looking to go in a different direction with that film and that he wanted Wilson to be something different before the character grew predictable for audiences:
“His team was already at work on “Deadpool 3,” he added, but didn’t directly address whether it would be made with Chinese censors in mind. He did say, however, that in the third installment, they were “looking to go in a completely different direction,” saying that “often, they reboot or change a character maybe like four movies too late.””
As far as we know, his Deadpool 3 team is comprised by writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. We also know that director Drew Goddard is directing and writing the untitled X-Force film which, according to Reese and Wernick, will come before Deadpool 3. We still don’t know who will be directing the film or if David Leitch will come back. X-Force and Deadpool 3 are somewhat of a question mark at the moment because of the uncertainty that the FOX/Disney merger may bring to the Marvel characters owned by FOX. Nevertheless, it seems that Ryan Reynolds and Co. are not letting go of Wade Wilson any time soon.
Even though the film is out for months now, even with a moderate version of it released in Christmas called Once Upon A Deadpool, a different, more toned down version of it will now premiere in that country due to the fact that Chinese authorities are very strict regarding films shown to their people. That’s why Deadpool 2 will be released as Deadpool 2: I Love My Family in that country; the new title pays homage to a famous Chinese sitcom which ran from 1993 to 1994 that reportedly revolutionized TV in that country.
