The Eternals star Salma Hayek has teased new details about her character in the upcoming Marvel Studios superhero film.

When it was discovered that one of Marvel Studios’ next big projects was The Eternals, many were confused as to just what this new team of superheroes was. Marvel Studios had essentially made its entier reputation on taking otherwise unknown characters from the comics and turning them into household names but even this particular group seemed obscure by comparison. The cast, however, did grab people’s attention which included actress Salam Hayek.

Salma Hayek’s character, Ajak, was created by Jack Kirby and first appeared in The Eternals #2 and was originally a man. In Ajak’s backstory, the character had several encounters with Thor and was, at one point, worshiped by the Aztecs and Incas as a God. While it is unknown how much of this backstory will play into Salma Hayek’s version of the character, we do know that she will be a leader in The Eternals.

While speaking to Total Film, Salma Hayek talked about playing a superhero and how many of them were played by people you would never imagine in the roles:

“At 53 – finally! – I can be a superhero. I play Ajak, who is the leader of the superheroes and all of them are people you would never have imagined. Except for Angelina [Jolie]. Angelina – she was born to be a superhero!”

What do you make of Salma Hayek’s comments? Are you surprised to hear that her character Ajak will be leading The Eternals? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
