TheWrap reports Salma Hayek is being eyed to star opposite Richard Madden and Kumail Nanjiani in Marvel Studios The Eternals.
Character details about Salma Hayek’s role remains under wraps.
Should Salma Hayek join The Eternals, she’ll star in the film along with Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, and Ma Dong-Seok. Salma Hayek was last seen in the 2019 comedy Drunk Parents.
Marvel Studios has tapped Chloe Zhao to direct the project from a script written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. The duo is best known for their spec script Ruin which managed to reach the top of the 2017 Black List. Principal photography on the project is expected to begin in September of 2019.
Plot details for The Eternals remain under wraps, however, the story reportedly features a love story between Ikaris and Sersi. Created by Jack Kirby in 1976, the Eternals are a fictional evolutionary offshoot of humanity created by the Celestials over a million years ago. The beings who possess superpowers and longer lifespans were the result of genetic experiments that led to the creation of two divergent races: The Eternals and The Deviants.
Other known upcoming projects from Marvel Studios include a Shang-Chi standalone film, and the Black Widow standalone film starring Scarlet Johannson, which has been written by Jac Schaeffer and is currently in production. In addition, Marvel Studios also has the Black Panther sequel that Ryan Coogler is returning to write and direct in the works. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was originally set to begin production in early 2019 but was put on hold after James Gunn was removed from the franchise. Now that the director has been brought back, production is expected after Gunn completes work on The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. and DC Films.
