Recent comments from Spider-Man director Sam Raimi have seen fans on Twitter demanding a Tobey Maguire led Spider-Man 4 from Sony.
Fifteen years since Spider-Man 3 was released, fans of Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man films are still eager to see the series revisted and its fourth and final installment finally released. Sony had plans had a Spider-Man 4, which was set to serve as a definitive conclusion to their Spider-Man series. However, issues with the script and Sam Raimi’s decision to walk away from the project ultimately led to the series being scrapped and a reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, put into production instead.
Last year’s Spider-Man: No Way Home saw Tobey Maguire return to the role of Spider-Man, alongside Andrew Garfield’s and Tom Holland’s Spider-Men, in a film that introduced Marvel’s multiverse to the big screen. Coincidentally, the next movie from Marvel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, not only continues the multiverse storyline but is directed by Sam Raimi.
In an interview with Fandango, Raimi was asked about the possibility of returning to the Spider-Man franchise for Spider-Man 4, to which the director said: “Anything is possible, really anything in the Marvel universe, any team-ups. I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think all things are possible.”
Naturally, that got fans excited. Many took to social media to share their calls for Sony to produce Spider-Man 4, with several fans adopting the hashtag #MakeRaimiSpiderMan4. This earned a response from Sony’s official Twitter account, which had been tagged by many fans in the wake of Raimi’s comments. However, there was no confirmation coming from Sony’s social team, who told fans “well this has been fun for our mentions today… friendly reminder, we’re just the social team!”
Tobey Maguire’s latest appearance as Spider-Man was in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Here’s the official synopsis:
For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.
