Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jackson, had some words of wisdom for his Captain Marvel co-star Brie Larson on becoming a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Speaking to Collider, Samuel L. Jackson reveals that he and Captain Marvel star Brie Larson had some long conversations about what it is to join up with the Mouse House and Marvel Studios to become a member of the long-running and massively popular franchise. The Nick Fury actor says he told Larson that accepting such a role is an interesting responsibility. He elaborates:
We had some long conversations about losing your anonymity and what the popularity of those characters means in terms of how people approach you and how people look at you and everything’s gonna be different.
Samuel Jackson admits that he gave Brie Larson his advice before he even saw Captain Marvel. After seeing the film, the storied performer admits:
It’s even bigger than I thought.
It seems Samuel Jackson did not comprehend just how much the character of Captain Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, would mean to women going to see the latest film from Marvel:
Sure we have superheroes and people like superheroes in this universe, but they’ve never had anyone to attach to the way I think women and girls will attach to this particular character. Because yes she’s Captain Marvel, but before that she was Carol Danvers.
Samuel Jackson continues:
She was somebody before they discovered her and claimed that they made her what she is.
The video concludes with Jackson referencing the persistence of Brie Larson’s character and insinuates that resilience in life can make someone stronger and that it is a great message for viewers, especially for women who do not often get to see themselves portrayed in superhero films.
