Scarlett Johansson is joining another comic book universe!

Scarlett Johansson Robert Pattinson The Batman

After more than a decade as Marvel’s Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson is in final negotiations to join Robert Pattinson in The Batman Part II, as reported by Deadline. Entertainment website Giant Freakin Robot broke the news.

While details about Johansson’s character are being kept under wraps, Deadline indicates that she would star opposite Pattinson, who returns as Bruce Wayne in the follow-up to the 2022 hit. Matt Reeves is once again back in the director’s chair. He’s also co-writing the project with Mattson Tomlin.

Matt Reeves’ Batman universe is getting more star power

DC Studios declined to comment on the talks, but insiders suggest momentum is strong as the studio continues to build out its slate. Johansson would be the most high-profile addition yet to Reeves’ Batman universe since Pattinson first donned the cowl, signaling that the filmmaker may be broadening his world with more star power.

Johansson has been mapping out her 2026 slate, recently boarding Mike Flanagan’s new Exorcist movie for Blumhouse. With both projects vying for space on her calendar, Johansson’s team has reportedly now smoothed out the logistical challenges, clearing a path for the actress to take on both high-profile roles.

If a deal closes, Johansson would join a sequel carrying high expectations after Reeves’ first installment earned more than $772 million at the worldwide box office and critical acclaim. Casting announcements are expected to continue as production is currently scheduled to kick off in Spring 2026.

The Batman Part II opens in theaters on October 1, 2027. Stay tuned for more updates on the project.
