With some rights to the Terminator franchise reverting back to James Cameron in 2019, the filmmaker is set to revive the film series with a new trilogy designed to pass the baton to a new cast of characters. The announcement was welcomed news to many fans who had been disheartened by the lesser quality of the sequels following Terminator 2: Judgement Day and it appears at least one of those films will be ignored by the sixth installment. In an interview with The Terminator Fans, Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed that the new film will disregard the events of Terminator Genisys.
Initially serving as a soft reboot of the franchise with Game of Thrones star Emilia Clark assuming the role of Sarah Connor, Terminator Genisys was critically panned and plans for follow-up films were scrapped. Now, Schwarzenegger has stated that Genisys will be discounted from the series’ continuity:
“It’s going to ignore Genisys.”
Terminator 6 will be helmed by Deadpool director Tim Miller with a script by David S. Goyer (Batman Begins), Charles Eglee (Dark Angel) and Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles).
Plot details are currently under wraps, though James Cameron has teased that the sixth film will center on a new young woman and confirmed that Linda Hamilton will reprise her iconic role as Sarah Connor.
Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the sixth installment of the Terminator franchise as it develops!
