Eastwood took to Instagram to thank everyone for their support of him joining this long running franchise.
It’s hard to put into words how excited I am for the next Fast & Furious. To me, the series is so much more than just a franchise. It’s a legacy. These great actors who have been in it together for so long have become a family. I absolutely can’t wait to join it. Now I can’t say too much, but I get to play a new character who operates under Kurt Russell in the movie, which is incredible, because Kurt was a total childhood hero of mine growing up.
Variety reports Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road), first rumored for a role by our very own bossman Umberto Gonzalez on Meet the Movie Press, has closed a deal to join the blockbuster franchise as a brand new villain.
The eighth flick, directed by Straight Outta Compton‘s F. Gary Gray and the first made since the tragic death of star Paul Walker in November 2013, is dated for roughly a year from now, on April 14, 2017. Earlier this year, Vin Diesel announced a further two sequels in 2019 and 2021, supposedly bringing the series to a close 20 years after the first film premiered.
