The final script for Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker has been released online for fans to read.

Arguably the biggest success of the year, Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker challenged critics and fans as to what an auteur-driven superhero movie could be. Beginning the year as one of the most controversial’s films, Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker ends this year by being one of the front-runners for this year’s Oscars, with Joaquin Phoenix a shoe-in for Best Actor.

Now, as a Christmas treat of sorts to fans of the iconic character, the final script for Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker has hit the internet for fans to peruse in their down-time this Holiday season. The script for Joker, which was written by Todd Phillips and Scott Phillips is one of the most interesting scripts this year, and perhaps this decade has seen. It was completely unexpected when Todd Phillips announced that he’d be giving fans of the Joker a live-action film that discussed the psyche of the character. Furthermore, to have a world-class character actor like Joaquin Phoenix to embody the role, fans knew they were in for a treat.

With Joker set to win big at this year’s Oscars, Warner Bros. has released the script – which you can read here – for the Joaquin Phoenix film at the perfect time to get the Clown Prince of Crime back into the conversation at dinner with your family.

Here is the official synopsis for Joker:

Director Todd Phillips’ Joker centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.

Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham. The DC Films movie is not part of the DC Extended Universe, and seems to play into Warner Bros.’s interests of making creator-driven superhero movies over necessarily building a hyper-connected shared universe… At least for the time being.

Joker is still playing in theaters and is currently available to watch on digital formats. The movie will see a release on Blu-Ray and DVD on January 7, 2020.
