‘Shazam!’ Trailer 2 Description Teases ‘Batman v Superman’ Nod

Shazam! Zachary Levi DC Batman Superman

SuperBroMovies has revealed a description for the highly-anticipated second trailer for DC’s upcoming Shazam! film starring Zachary Levi.

According to the site, the trailer begins with Billy having dinner with his foster family. The Walking Dead actor Cooper Andrews who plays Victor Vazquez teases a costumed hero has appeared in Philidelphia before cutting to a montage of shots from the first trailer. After the logos for WB, New Line, and DC, the trailer introduces Darla Dudley and Pedro Peña who make fun of the Shazam costume at dinner. Billy is then seen once again being granted his powers by the Wizard.

Billy brainstorms with Freddy to come up with a superhero name but fails before cutting away to Billy trying to fly above the clouds. He starts to fall but catches himself in Superman fashion before hitting the ground, realizing he too can fly.

Next Doctor Sivana (Mark Strong) is introduced. He fights with the titular hero in the air as we see a child making Batman and Superman figures fight each other, a nod to the previous DCEU film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The child is also humming the original Superman theme by John Williams.

Shazam and Freddy are then seen attempting to find a lair, asking if any castles are available at a real estate office. The trailer begins to end, teasing a look at the young Shazam family calling out Billy for being Shazam, along with a few cuts of action. The villainous Doctor Sivana asks Billy how old he is to which he replies “basically 15.” The trailer finishes off with Billy as he jumps off of a building and transforms into Shazam. But that’s not all. A stinger hits after, featuring Sivana and Shazam duking it out in a toy store. He throws a large Batman toy at Sivana but misses before they end up on the large-scale piano which is a nod to the film’s big influence 1988’s Big.

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Ron Cephas Jones. Here is the plot synopsis for Shazam!:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Shazam! will be released in theaters on April 5, 2019, and will be followed by Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) on February 7, 2020, and Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020. A standalone Joker film set outside of the DC Films universe starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime is also set to hit theaters October 4, 2019.
