New Shazam! concept art reveals an early design for the boots worn by Zachary Levi.
Last year, Warner Bros. and DC offered audiences a more lighthearted and comedic entry in the DC Extended Universe film franchise with the release of the Shazam! movie. For the DC hero’s first outing in a live-action feature film, the filmmaking team enlisted Zachary Levi to portray the titular role and provided the actor with a superhero costume that felt as though it was lifted directly from the pages of the comics.
Now, Shazam! concept artist Jerad S. Marantz has taken to his official Instagram account to share one of the early designs for the titular hero’s boots. As Marantz explains the caption, the creative team wanted to try to make the DC hero’s greek boots from the New 52 comics work but found the design was too busy.

Here is the official synopsis for Zachary Levi’s Shazam!:
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quick.
Shazam! is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
