Shazam! director David F. Sandberg discussed the impact Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam may or may not have on the sequel.
While Shazam and Black Adam are arch-enemies in the pages of DC Comics, the two characters are not expected to cross each other’s paths on screen for some time. Before any meeting between the characters, Zachary Levi’s Shazam is set to return for a sequel to the hero’s first standalone film while Dwayne Johnson will make his debut as Black Adam in the feature centered on the classic villain.
Of course, many fans suspect the potential for a crossover involving both characters means to respective productions of each project have been in close contact. However, Shazam! director David F. Sandberg reveals that he has not spoken with the Black Adam team as of now:
“No, I haven’t talked to [the Black Adam team]. I mean, I assume DC is keeping tabs, that they have the bigger plan. But I don’t know what they’re doing. I’m just curious to see it, you know?”

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quick.
Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou.
Shazam! is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
