‘Shazam!’ Director Slams Fans Who Take Marvel & DC Rivalry Too Seriously

Shazam Zachary Levi

Shazam! director David F. Sandberg threw some shade at the trolls that take the rivalry between DC Comics and its major rival, Marvel.

The rivalry between the two comic powerhouses has risen in recent years to somewhat ridiculous proportions. The trolls now spew hate for no other reason than for the sake of being a agents of chaos. Some fans are savage in their attempts to bring down the next release from either studio. All this unnecessary hate has been noticed by one of the individuals at the helm of one of DC’s next big releases. David F. Sandberg, who’s directing Shazam!, spoke out recently on how dumb he thinks this rivalry is. You can check out the post below.

If Coca-Cola and Pepsi can coexist without nastiness, there is no reason the two masters of shared universes can’t either. And the people that want to bring everyone else down need to relax and just enjoy the fact that two major studios are going out of their way to bring everyone’s favorite stories to life. They may not all be great but they can only get better and from the looks of Shazam!, they are moving in the right direction.

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Ron Cephas.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Shazam! will be released in theaters on April 5, 2019.
